Dr. Peter Iweanya Ujomu

The Executive Director, HMI
Peter Ujomu is the Executive Director/Founder of Health Matters Incorporated. He holds a Master degree in Sociology and several post graduate qualifications including the Chevening scholarship award by the British Council where he studied at the Institute of Population, University of Exeter, U.K. He has been working in the field of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Diabetes Prevention and Conflict Prevention Programme since 1988. Owing to his vast experience, Ujomu has mentored many upcoming NGOs, CBOs and individuals across the country.
With his background in social science, he leads a crop of professionals from different fields to implement projects that have helped to improve the health and general wellbeing of communities across the country through national and international partnerships. Under his leadership, Health Matters Inc has partnered with the Ford Foundation, the World Diabetes Foundation, Family Health International, Uk, the Society for Family Health/Global Fund. He was involved in a couple of research work in Nigeria. In 2004, he was appointed the In-country monitor for a study on alternative prevention techniques for HIV/AIDS study in Nigeria by the Family Health International, North Carolina. He also coordinated participant advocates in the SAVVY study. Other research include Adolescent Reproductive Health Behaviour in Mushin and Makoko in partnership with Dr. Chinwe Nwanna in 2005.
Ujomu was master trainer on Adolescent Reproductive Health for WHO in 1999, a member of Lagos State Technical Working Group on adolescent health, EPA project coordinator and advisor to the British Council on Educational Partnership in Africa in 2009. He delivered the 29th Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education’s distinguished lecture series tilted: Contemporary Issues in Poverty and Nigeria’s Development. He is the chairman, Board of trustees of the civil society on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CISHAN), the National secretary of the Association for malaria prevention, immunization and nutrition in Nigeria (ACOMIN). He served on the board of the World Bank Assisted HIV/AIDS Development Project in 2002. He is a former secretary of the chevening scholars.
Mr. Ujomu has attended several conferences. They include; IX International Conference on AIDS Education, Jerusalem 1995 funded by Ford Foundation, IX International Conference on AIDS and STDs in Africa, Uganda 1995 funded by USAID, XIII World Conference on AIDS, Durban South Africa, July 2000, XIV World Conference on AIDS Barcelona Spain 2002, NACA/UNFPA Sponsored tour of Senegalese AIDS project 2003 and International Conference on Microbicides, Indian (2008)
He is BOT chairman of several non-governmental organisations in Nigeria.

Mrs. Maryann A. Mokobia
Assistant Director.
Maryann A. Mokobia is the Assistant Director. She joined Health Matters Inc. in 1996. She holds a B.A in English from the University of Lagos. She has over 23 years of experience in development work with series of professional trainings organized and supported by development agencies such as Unicef, ActionAID International, Nigeria, the Ford Foundation, Family Health International (FHI) New York, Femope Foundation/IFH, U.K in Civic Empowerment training, Conflict Management, project designing and management, proposal writing, strategic planning, Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) Strategy, Reproductive and Sexual Health and HIV Reduction, Research Ethics.
Over the year, she has developed and supervised the successful implementation of projects for the organization supported by international funding agencies and organizations including World Diabetes Foundation, Family Health International, Uk, the Society for Family Health/Global Fund.
Mokobia has also attended local and international conferences including 2005 International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) at Abuja, 2002 XIV World Conference on AIDS Barcelona Spain 2002. She served as a supervisor of participant advocates in the microbicide trials (Cellulose Sulfate and SAVVY) in Nigeria conducted by FHI in collaboration with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) respectively.

Mrs. Aboluwarin Damilola
Senior Programme Officer
Damilola (“Lola” for short) is a Counselor and Senior Programme Officer with Health Matters Inc., where she implements projects to improve health and wellbeing of the Nigerian masses and Lagos State population in particular. She is an experienced and passionate advocate for women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). She works to educate girls and women about their rights to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and empowering them to access these services within health facilities in Lagos State. Currently working to strengthen diabetes care in primary health facilities within Lagos state. Through her participation in the Rise Up Advocacy and Leadership Accelerator workshop, Lola feels more equipped to integrate the lessons on girl and women-centered advocacy into her work to better integrate youth-friendly SRH services across primary health centers in Lagos State. She is a graduate of History and International Relations from Lagos State University. (LASU).

Mrs. Yakub Modupe
Senior Care Provider
Is the Senior Care provider/Health Educator Officer,Health Matters Incorporated. An undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Faculty of Education As a health professional, Has a Nursing Background and has undergone series of professional trainings with local and international organizations such as St kizito Hospital,SFH,FHI,IPAS,WDF, Ministry of Health on Mass Distribution of LLIN,Campaign 2010,SUNMAP, and She has 10years of work Experience.

Mr. Adie John
Admin / Finance Officer
He doubles as the Finance/Admin officer, Health Matters Incorporated. He holds a B.sc Ed (Hons) in Accounting from Tai Solarin University of Education,Ijagun,Ogun State. He has also worked for the Redeemed Christian church of God(Victory Christian Centre) as an Administrative/Finance officer where he attended some professional trainings on Administrative/financial management organized by the mission. He has 3years of Experience.
